Die vier Imperative
Calm authority
State facts, cite norms. Never sell. Never exclaim.
Klubly addresses German Vereinsvorstände — volunteer board members entrusted with legal compliance. They respond to institutional precision, not enthusiasm. Every marketing-speak phrase erodes the trust that the brand exists to provide.
- State outcomes in declarative sentences.
- Cite the specific German legal norm where one applies (§ 31a BGB, AO §60a, DSGVO Art. 5).
- Use precise numbers and timestamps where possible.
- Acknowledge uncertainty plainly when it exists.
- Use exclamation marks in body copy.
- Use marketing intensifiers (revolutionär, bahnbrechend, einzigartig, perfekt).
- Promise outcomes that depend on the user's actions.
- Stack adjectives — one is enough; two is a smell.
Sie-form German, always
Klubly addresses board members. Du is wrong here.
The customer is a fiduciary actor. Casual address breaks the implicit professional contract. There is no audience-segment for which du is appropriate.
- Use Sie / Ihnen / Ihr / Ihre throughout.
- Conjugate verbs in the formal: möchten Sie, bestätigen Sie, wenn Sie speichern.
- Possessive: Ihr Verein, Ihre Mitglieder, Ihr Klub-IQ.
- Imperatives: Bestätigen Sie, Wählen Sie, Speichern Sie.
- du / dein / dir — never in customer-facing copy.
- Code-switch mid-sentence (e.g. 'Sie können dein Profil ändern').
Norm references as trust signals
Embed legal-paragraph references inline; do not relegate them to footnotes.
The legacy 'Editorial Trust' system used JetBrains Mono micro-copy as the trust signal. With monospace retired (ADR 0002), norm references carry that weight by themselves. They go inline, where they qualify the claim they support.
- Inline citations in body copy: 'Vorstandsmitglieder haften nur für Vorsatz und grobe Fahrlässigkeit (§ 31a BGB), …'
- Use the standard German abbreviation form (§, Abs., lit.).
- Cite the specific paragraph, not just the act.
- Relegate citations to (Mehr Infos) links or footnote markers.
- Translate norm abbreviations to English — they are legal proper nouns.
Restraint over emphasis
Yellow accent ≤5% of any view. No emoji unless the user adds one first. One emphasis per paragraph.
Brand authority is signalled by what we omit. Every emphatic moment used reduces the next one's value.
- Reserve the signal yellow accent for the single most important moment per viewport.
- Use bold sparingly — for terminology being defined, not for re-stating ideas.
- Let prose carry weight; only italicise where Fraunces editorial accent applies (one word per editorial display).
- Add emoji proactively — only mirror what the user does.
- Use bold for emphasis when prose carries the meaning.
- Stack emphasis (e.g. **important!** or *_emphasised_*).
- Repeat the brand mark / signal yellow more than once per viewport.
